Synagogue Arnhem
|
| Since 1853, the synagogue of the Arnhem Jewish community has stood in the village square of Arnhem, the Netherlands. This year the 150th anniversary of the synagogue will be celebrated. As the jubilee approached, it became clear that the state of the building was cause for concern. The restoration of the synagogue was begun in 2001, and halfway through this year this major project will be completed.
Whereas most of the funds for this project went towards architectural restoration, other parts of the synagogue also had to be given a lot of attention. The Stichting Arnhemse Synagoge, the Dutch society supervising the project, was supported in its efforts by ‘the Facultatieve Group’. Thanks to the financial support of ‘the Facultatieve Group’, it was possible to renovate the pews of the synagogue.
