North Hawaii Community Hospital and its ‘Brian’s Garden’ project
|
The ‘North Hawaii Community Hospital’ opened in 1996. Its mission was to improve the health of the population of North Hawaii by enabling better access to healthcare and providing high-quality service at a reasonable price. The hospital receives subsidies and gifts, and is supported by businesses throughout the world.
The organisation aims to become the world’s ‘most healing hospital’. A goal it plans to achieve with its dedicated team that approaches every person’s treatment at the level of mind, body and spirit.
The hospital’s surroundings are rich in all that nature has to offer. Much attention has been given to the synergy of nature, peace and quiet, and space, both indoors and outdoors. To this end, beautiful and extensive gardens have been created around the buildings, the so-called ‘Healing Gardens’. The four gardens, each planted according to its own individual theme, are maintained by volunteers.
One of these gardens is ‘Brian’s Garden’, named after the son of the couple who takes cares of it. Patients’ rooms look out on this garden. In this central spot, various ponds, running water and colourful flowers create a relaxing atmosphere where patients and visitors love to go to enjoy some peace. The garden requires an extra helper to assist the two volunteers in keeping it in perfect condition. ‘The Facultatieve Group’ has offered to facilitate this helper.
