As of 1 July 2008, 'the Facultatieve Group' is acquiring Germany’s Funeralia GmbH. Funeralia was founded in Berlin in 1937 as Max Wagner & Co. It has grown into a leading manufacturer in the field of refrigeration units, dissecting tables, body tray lifters, (veterinary) pathology equipment and complete mortuary layouts. Funeralia operates globally, with an office in Würzburg and a factory of more than 3000 square metres in Ehrenfriedersdorf. It employs around forty people.
Internationalisation and vertical expansion
“We are of course very excited about acquiring Funeralia. After all, it reflects perfectly our strategy of further internationalizing and vertically expanding our activities,” said Henry Keizer, chairman of the Executive Board of 'the Facultatieve Group'. “It is an excellent company with plenty of experience, dedicated employees and outstanding manufacturing facilities.”
Synergy
The acquisition of Funeralia follows closely on the heals of the Hygeco International buyout. “This is the perfect opportunity for both companies to expand further using the synergy we’ve created,“ said Keizer. “But this collaboration also has many potential advantages for our subsidiary Facultatieve Technologies.”
