Sunday 4 May Commemoration of the dead and concert at Westerveld

In cooperation with Cemetery & Crematorium Westerveld, De Culturele Stichting Velser Gemeenschap (the local cultural foundation) organises a remembrance concert on 4 May. The concert will take place following the traditional Commemoration of the dead, which will be held in the Westerveld memorial park again this year. The programme for 4 May is as follows: 11.00 hours Cemetery Duinhof in IJmuiden-East: Laying of wreaths by the city council in memory of the war victims buried there. 18.40 hours Monument Plein 1945 in IJmuiden: Laying of wreaths by the city council, organisations, schools, businesses, etc. People can also lay individual flowers at the foot of the monument on Plein 1945. 19.00 hours Memorial walk from Plein 1945 to Westerveld: The memorial walk to Cemetery & Crematorium Westerveld starts immediately after the laying of wreaths and individual flowers at the monument on Plein 1945. Ceremony at Cemetery & Crematorium Westerveld: 19.30 hours Arrival of the memorial walk at Westerveld: During the walk across the cemetery, the mayor will lay a wreath at several war graves. 19.40 hours Music at the monument is performed by the ‘Felison Brass’ musical society and the ‘Goede Herderkoor’ choir. 20.00 hours Two minutes of silence, announced by the Last Post. 20.02 hours All those present will sing the first and sixth verse of the Wilhelmus, the Dutch national anthem. 20.05 hours Start of the procession past the Remembrance Monument. People will also be able to lay individual flowers. 20.30 hours Remembrance concert in the Dudok hall of Westerveld: This concert is open to anyone who wishes to attend and lasts until about will end around 21.30 hours.
