Skating for a good cause
Despite the bad weather, about a thousand school children turned up at the Jaap Edenbaan in Amsterdam on 11 March to take part in a sponsored skate for the Achter de Regenboog Foundation. For each lap the kids skated, family, friends, acquaintances and businesses donated money; one euro, for example. The proceeds will be used to counsel children who have lost a loved one. And it was not only kids on the ice; joining them on the rink were top-class sports students from the Johan Cruyff University. Short-track speed skater Cees Juffermans and former winner of the elfstedentocht (the Frisian 11-city skating marathon) Henk Angenent also participated with others to generate lots of money for the Achter de Regenboog Foundation, with a grand total of sixteen thousand euros.
Facultatieve Verzekeringen has been sponsoring this foundation for a number of years and Achter de Regenboog foundation also uses the funds to create teaching materials for schools.
