Each year, more than seven thousand children lose a family member due to a fatal illness, a traffic accident, suicide or murder. The Achter de Regenboog Foundation – sponsored by Facultatieve Verzekeringen – has been supporting them for more than thirteen years. Over eighty volunteers are committed to guiding them through the mourning process and provide support to those involved. On 11 March of this year, the Achter de Regenboog Foundation will continue last year’s successful ice-skating festival held on the Jaap Edenbaan ice-skating track. On that occasion, more than four hundred school children completed over four thousand rounds of € 1 on the track, sponsored by the business sector, family members, friends and acquaintances. The proceeds enabled the foundation to develop information material for schools.
This year, an estimated one thousand primary and secondary school students will travel to the Jaap Edenbaan in Amsterdam to complete a maximum number of sponsored rounds. Top athletes such as Sanne Delfgou (long-distance skater), Cees Juffermans (twice Olympic Games competitor and former short track ice-skater) and Annemarie Kramer (top athlete sprint and Summer Olympics competitor) will join them on the ice and give free workshops.
