Villa Westerveld, a national monument, will be fully renovated. Currently a lot of work is being carried out on the interior of the villa. When work is completed, everything is ready, the upper floor will serve as office space. Downstairs will include an entrance hall and facilities to visit those lying in state, 24 hours a day. The villa will be restored to its former glory so that its characteristic style is preserved. These beautiful pictures give you a basic impression of the work.
Villa Westerveld – the oldest villa of Velsen – was built in 1866 on the former Westerveld estate. In the seventeenth century, a large number of country estates were erected in the surroundings of Kennemerland, where wealthy businessmen spent the summer. A magnificent garden with ponds and the embellishment of the country house with sculptures and terraces turned the country estate into a status symbol at the same time.
In 1888, the villa was sold, together with the carriage house, storage, summer houses and various grounds totalling more than 13 hectares. In one section of the Westerveld estate a cemetery was created, designed by the famous garden architect L.P. Zocher. Villa Westerveld has been in use as a service house ever since.
