On Sunday 17th of May, Moscowa Crematorium & Cemetery held an Open Day with the theme ‘Cremation or Burial’. Over three hundred visitors were allowed entry to nearly every area of the complex. Tours were organized throughout the day. There was a special programme for children, during which they painted a coffin with the story of a panda’s death.
During the Open Day, it was possible also to learn about the Stichting Vrienden van het Park Moscowa (Dutch Society of Friends of Moscowa Cemetery). Together with this foundation – established to generate interest in the potential and history of this monumental graveyard – the Stichting Monuscript published the book ‘Moscowa’. The first copies of this book – which covers the history of Moscowa in great detail – were presented by E.J. Schoevaers (Stichting Monuscript) to councillor C. Jansen of Arnhem and Mr J.M.H.J. Keizer, Chairman of the Stichting Vrienden van het Park Moscowa and President of 'the Facultatieve Group' (which operates Moscowa). The book, written by Menno Potjer, is of course available at Moscowa.
