16th April was an important day for Crematorium Dieren, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in‘A view on death and departure’ (‘Een beschouwing rondom sterven en afscheid nemen’) by Irene van Lippe-Biesterfeld was presented. The first copy of the book was presented to Irene van Lippe-Biesterfeld by Mr J.M.H.J. Keizer, President and CEO of 'the Facultatieve Group'. Personal view 'A view on death and departure’ actually resembles an essay and has become a very personal view. The idea arose on the occasion of the tenth Concerto in Memoriam, held in the park of Westerveld Cemetery and Crematorium and where Irene van Lippe-Biesterfeld was a guest speaker. In the period following a funeral, many relatives feel the need to quietly ponder on what has happened in their lives and how they can best cope with the physical departure of a loved one. And so the idea was born, to publish a booklet on this difficult but beautiful subject, which will be made available by ‘the Facultatieve’ to families who have arranged a funeral at one of their crematoria or cemeteries.
“When I was asked to write about this subject, I immediately realised that it would not be simple,” explains Irene van Lippe-Biesterfeld, “it is, however, an important and also a beautiful and valuable subject with which everyone is confronted sooner or later. We all have our own way of dealing with death and the departure of the deceased and the same applies to our way of coping with the sadness. The result is an essay which I dearly hope will offer consolation or inspiration at times when they are most needed.”
Availability The book, which is freely available of course, can be ordered via the crematoria and cemeteries of 'the Facultatieve Group' (Dieren Crematorium, Westerveld Cemetery and Crematorium in Driehuis, Jonkerbos Crematorium in Nijmegen and Moscowa Cemetery and Crematorium in Arnhem).
