From 15 to 19 September, the cemeteries and crematoria of ‘the Facultatieve Group’ (Moscowa Cemetery & Crematorium, Westerveld Cemetery & Crematorium, Dieren Crematorium, Jonkerbos Crematorium and De Boskamp Funeral Centre & Crematorium) participated in the 50PlusBeurs in the Jaarbeurs Exhibition Centre in Utrecht. The exhibition – the largest in the world for active over-fifties – clocked up 98,000 visitors this year.
The informative stand of our cemeteries and crematoria featured the theme ‘Have you decided?’. Visitors were advised on the differences between burial and cremation and the practical issues, but especially about the unparalleled options. Many visitors were unaware that it was possible to select from so many personalized options for a funeral. For example, our staff were able to advise on mausolea that can still be erected at certain cemeteries and about modern and artistic memorials that may be placed in urn gardens. Reactions were extremely positive. The 50PlusBeurs was an excellent opportunity to advise visitors informally about all the options available before, during and after a ceremony.
With nearly 100,000 visitors, the 50PlusBeurs was just as busy as its record year in 2009. The organizers are considering extending the event in 2011 from five to six days to ensure a more even spread of visitors and enable further growth. For more information, please visit www.50plusbeurs.nl.
