Architecture Day is organized once a year in the North Rhine-Westphalia region. This year will be the 15th edition and will take place on the 26th June. Niederrhein Crematorium in Willich will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – and everybody is very welcome.
Niederrhein Willich Crematorium was originally built in 1902 as a home for the aristocratic Bönninghausen family. It was largely destroyed during the Second World War, but was reconstructed with the help of the Marshall Plan – a major material assistance programme for European countries (partially) ravaged by war. In 2008 extensive renovations were instigated and in 2009 the Niederrhein Willich Crematorium opened. The layout and character perfectly reflect the special atmosphere of the buildings. The crematorium has two monumental auditoriums, each with its own unique ambience. Both the refreshment and the reception areas are also of the highest quality and are definitely worth a visit. All the rooms will be accessible on Architecture Day and we will be providing a number of guided tours.
Unique
“The historical country estate – which had been in the possession of an aristocratic family for many years – was thoroughly renovated to create a crematorium unique in Germany”, said Henry Keizer, President & CEO of ‘the Facultatieve Group’. “The crematorium complies with all the modern demands, but possesses all the original features and characteristic atmosphere of days gone by. The unusual architecture and monumental character together with the top-class service generate a unique synergy.”
Architecture Day
With more than 43,000 visitors last year, Architecture Day has become a popular regional event. This year no less than 551 organizations will be opening their doors to visitors.
