The history of the Moscowa Cemetery & Crematorium in Arnhem goes back to 1873 when the Arnhem City Council decided to set up a new graveyard outside the urban area. Since then, Moscowa — part of ‘the Facultatieve Group' — has developed into a modern cemetery with beautiful monuments of both local and national importance. The great variety of flora and fauna makes Moscowa a favourite for walkers. In 2007, the Arnhem City Authorities drew up a vision for the park: Master Plan 2007 – 2030, 'from cemetery to burial park’. Together with 'the Facultatieve Group' and the Friends of Moscowa Foundation, the Council will be restoring and preserving the quality and the identity of Moscowa.
The first phase of the Master Plan began on 18 February with the felling of trees and removal of undergrowth. Over the coming years, many monumental grave stones are to be restored, horticultural features recovered and entrances adapted. Naturally, people’s personal wishes will continue to play a central role in our (ever increasing) funerary services options.
The Moscowa Cemetery & Crematorium is part of ‘the Facultatieve Group’. For further information: www.moscowa.nl.
