The special commemoration service ‘Alom Gedenken’ took place at ‘De Boskamp’ cemetery in Assen on Sunday the 30th of October. Some 800 visitors took part in this unique silent march, which focused specifically on communal commemoration. De Boskamp Funeral Centre & Crematorium – part of ‘the Facultatieve Group’ – was one of the organisers of this event.
All visitors were given a candle and a rose and walked in a long procession over the cemetery to the columbarium. Once there, guests were comforted by beautiful music and a recitation on commemoration. After the walk, everyone dispersed to place a candle or memorial stone on the grave of a loved one. The cemetery was sensitively illuminated with torches and volunteers were on hand to give counsel to those who required it.
The reaction of the visitors was very positive. Many people liked the idea of personalized commemoration, both individual and communal.
