Grand Concerto in Memoriam attracts over six thousand guests
The countless reactions to the Concerto in Memoriam, held yesterday (8 June 2008) in the Westerveld memorial park, demonstrate that this annual open-air remembrance concert meets a profound need. Over six thousand people attended sun-drenched Driehuis to listen not only to a varied musical programme, but also to hear an inspiring and personal Word of Comfort from Lieutenant General H.A. Couzy (Rtd), Commander of the Dutch Army from 1992 to 1996.
The music was provided by the young professional Colla Voce orchestra conducted by Bob Berkemeier, with soprano Astrid Lammers accompanied by pianist Laura Hölzenspies, and Loek Lufting on violin. Pieces included Mozart, Strauss, Ravel and Williams (music from the film Schindler’s List).
The Cemetery & Crematorium Westerveld, part of 'the Facultatieve Group', intends the Concerto in Memoriam to enable as many people as possible to commemorate their loved ones. Entry to the concert, which has been held annually since 1994, is therefore free. In 2009 the Concerto in Memoriam will be held on Sunday 7 June.
