Although the rest of the programme has not yet been confirmed, Westlands Male Voice Choir will be providing the musical content for the Concerto in Memoriam on Sunday 6 June, 2010. This free memorial concert – held in Westerveld Cemetery & Crematorium’s memorial park – has been attended every year since 1994 by thousands of guests. Everyone is welcome.
Westlands Male Voice Choir
With more than 150 members, Westlands Male Voice Choir is one of the largest male voice choirs in the Netherlands. Founded in 1956, this celebrated choir is well-known both at home and abroad. Many famous entertainers and musicians have participated in concerts and in radio and TV appearances. Of all their countless radio and television appearances, the choir is especially famous for singing the theme tune to a popular early seventies television series in the Netherlands. The choir has released various LPs, CDs and DVDs over the years, including collaborative projects with Nana Mouskouri, The Metropole Orchestra and Ernst Daniël Smid.
For its 50th anniversary, the Westlands Male Voice Choir performed a concert conducted by Hans de Wit and accompanied by a symphony orchestra, including guest appearances by baritone Henk Poort, soprano Wilma Bierens and Joep Moonen on grand piano. Last year the choir performed in the Ridderzaal in The Hague to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Holland-America Friendship Foundation.
