At 2 p.m. on Sunday 5 June, the annual Concerto in Memoriam is to be held in the monumental memorial park of Westerveld Cemetery & Crematorium, a member of 'the Facultatieve Group'. Entrance to the concert – which attracts more and more visitors each year – is free, as Westerveld aims to provide everyone with the opportunity to commemorate their loved ones.
Holland Symfonia
Each year, the (musical) programme is compiled with the utmost care. In addition to The Last Post and a Word of Comfort, a number of – often classical – compositions are performed. This year, the musical programme will be provided by the internationally acclaimed Holland Symfonia. This renowned orchestra is the permanent partner of the National Ballet and the Dutch Dance Theatre. The orchestra is also known for its performances at Amsterdam Uitmarkt, where it traditionally performs a concert on Saturday evening, which is broadcast live. During the concerto, Holland Symfonia will perform a violin concert by Felix Mendelssohn featuring Isabelle van Keulen as soloist. Isabelle van Keulen, as a violist (viola), has performed on all major concert platforms in the world and also produced various solo CDs. The repertoire further includes the Sinfonia da Requiem by Benjamin Britten.
Jan Terlouw
This year, the Word of Comfort is spoken by Jan Terlouw. In 1970, after having conducted many years of scientific research, he wanted to do other things. He became a writer and politician. As the parliamentary party chairman, he was the driving force behind the recovery of political party D66 and became Minister of Economic Affairs in the second and third governments of van Agt. He is also the writer of (children's) books, with ‘classics’ including Koning van Katoren, Briefgeheim and Oorlogswinter.
