The 2007 Concerto in Memoriam (which was held on 10 June in the Westerveld memorial park) was again very popular this year. Together, but also in a personal way, around 5,800 people remembered their loved ones in the beautiful and peaceful surroundings of Westerveld.
Musical program
Following last year’s positive reactions, the musical program this year was also provided by the world-renowned ‘Koninklijke Zangvereniging Mastreechter Staar’. The Staar were given a standing ovation for their stunning performance of, amongst others, Gounod’s ‘Kyrie’, Grieg’s ‘Landerkennung’ and Handels’ ‘A Toi la Gloire’.
KRO
The Concerto in Memoriam has been receiving increasing national attention. This year, KRO was not only there to film, but also to hand out candles with the text ‘Vergeten is ballingschap, herinnering is bevrijding’ (To forget is exile, remembrance is freedom). A quotation that TV presenter Wilfred Kemp used later in his moving and personal Word of Comfort.
2008
It was clear from the enormous interest and positive reactions following the first Concerto in Memoriam (in 1994) that this memorial concert met an important demand. And this year, again, it seemed that many people found this to be an excellent opportunity to remember their loved ones who have passed away. This has been an encouragement for Westerveld to continue this unique tradition. In 2008 the Concerto in Memoriam will be held on Sunday 8 June.
